Apple had introduced the butterfly keys for more utilization of space and function in 2015. Additionally, the keys are quite comfortable to use. But, the situation became problematic when these butterfly keys started being sticky very easily. Apart from providing inconsistent typing, these keys turn hot when used for a long time.

Consequently, the keyboard proved to be one of the greatest failures of Apple. Even Apple has to control the damage on its own. And, after research and studies, Apple decided to change the butterfly mechanism of the keys.

What was the Issue with Butterfly Keys?

The main motive of Apple behind butterfly keys is to make MacBooks more compact and thinner. And, the idea was quite practical for those who need to travel with their MacBooks.

But, with butterfly technology users criticized the keyboards due to unresponsive, sticky and repetitive typing. Because food crumbs, dust and dirt can easily make space in between those keys. And, when any user presses the keys either they can’t type or type on a repeat. Thus, it is one of the most controversial movements of Apple.

Eventually, the users had to fix the issue on their own. And, the solutions turned out to be quite expensive and not reliable. Furthermore, the keys have such components beneath them like a butterfly’s shape along with a hinge in the centre.

So, What’s the Solution from Behalf of Apple?

Apple had started a repair program for butterfly keyboard in June 2018. The initiative was then taken for MacBook and MacBook Pro variants. Later, in May 2019, Apple added more variants to their list of keyboard repair initiatives such as MacBook Air, Pro and general MacBooks. Check these enlisted MacBooks to know if your MacBook is one of them.
